The short version: we collect an email address if you hand us one, and nothing else that identifies you.

What we collect

  • Your email address, if you sign up for the monthly. We store it alongside which page you signed up from, because that tells us which guides are actually useful, and nothing else.
  • What you send us through the contact form — your name, your email and your message. That is emailed to us and is not stored in any database on this site.
  • Anonymous page statistics, through Vercel Web Analytics: which pages were viewed, roughly where in the world from, and what kind of device. It does not use cookies and does not build a profile of you.

What we do not collect

We do not run Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, a Meta pixel or any advertising tracker. This site sets no tracking cookies, which is why you have not been asked to accept any. We do not buy or sell data about you, and we do not attempt to work out who you are from your reading.

Who else can see it

Only the services that make the site run, and only for that purpose:

  • Vercel — hosting and the anonymous page statistics.
  • Neon — the database the subscriber list lives in.
  • Mailgun — delivers contact-form messages and the monthly email.

We do not share your address with advertisers, contractors, lead buyers or anyone else. If that ever changes it would be a different promise, so it would be asked for rather than announced here.

How long we keep it

Your email address stays on the list until you unsubscribe, at which point it is removed. Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link. Contact-form messages sit in our mailbox like any other email.

Your choices

Ask us and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. There is no account to log into and no form to fill in — email us and it gets done. If you are in the UK, EU or California you have those rights by law; we would rather just give them to everybody than ask where you live.

Children

This site is written for adults maintaining a home and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13.

Changes

If we start collecting something new, this page changes and the date at the top changes with it.
