Why this exists

A technician came out to clear a blocked condensate line and mentioned, on the way out, that a shop vacuum on the outdoor end does the same job in ten minutes. Someone else mentioned that a treatment tablet in the pan stops it blocking in the first place.

Neither of those is in any manual. Both of them save a call every few months. That is the kind of thing that gets passed on at the point of repair or not at all, and it is what this site writes down.

So every guide here does two things. It gets you out of the immediate problem, in the order someone who does this for a living would work it. Then it tells you the cheap part or the small habit that stops you paying for the same visit twice.

How we work

The fix is never behind a form
No email gate, no quote request in front of the answer. If a page is useful it should be useful immediately.
We say where to stop
Some jobs are genuinely beyond DIY. We name which and why, so you can tell whether the reason applies to you rather than being told to consult a professional.
Every cost carries its source
Figures are published by someone we name and link to. We do not average them into a number of our own and present it as research.
Some links earn a commission
It never changes what we recommend, and it never decides whether a guide tells you to do a job yourself.
